Does High Cholesterol Cause Heart Disease?
Cholesterol is transported via the blood flow in the body, connected to proteins. This grouping of proteins and cholesterol is known as a lipoprotein. There are two main categories of cholesterol, based on what the lipoprotein carries. They are as follows:
• Low-density lipoprotein (LDL): LDL, the negative or bad cholesterol, carries cholesterol particles throughout your body. LDL cholesterol fosters in the walls of the arteries, making them stiff and thin.
• High-density lipoprotein (HDL): HDL, the good or positive cholesterol, plucks out excess cholesterol and channels it back to the liver.
